  • Obituary: Leah Irene Aylward, 94, of Falmouth, Hants County, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 6, 2002, at the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born on August 27, 1907, in Aldersville, Lunenburg County, she was the daughter of the late William and Amena (Hennigar) Turbitt. She retired in 1977 after 25 years at Avon Valley Greenhouses Ltd., Falmouth, where she was a rose grader. She was a member of the Juniper Grove United Church, Falmouth, and was a former member of St. James Anglican Church, Aldersville. She loved her numerous motor trips across Canada and the United States. Her favorite pastimes were knitting, crocheting, playing rummy and watching her beloved Blue Jay's baseball team. She was a hard working community volunteer over the years and had a great sense of humor and loving nature. She is survived by son, Donald , Falmouth; daughter, Bernice (Robert) Aylward, Victoria, B.C.; son, Lionel (Susan), Falmouth. She was known as "Nannie" to her grandchildren, John (fiancee, Kathy LeBlanc), Kimberly (Roger) Allen, Doug (Tammy), all of Falmouth; Rick Aylward and Barbara (Robert) Patterson, all of Victoria, B.C.; and by her great grandchildren, Jason and Jake Aylward; Isaac and Hannah Allen. Also by her future great grandchildren, as of July 20, Marc and Melissa; brother, Raymond (Gladys) Turbitt, Aldersville; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Frederick Leon Aylward, on June 2, 1940, as a result of a tragic drowning accident which left her with 3 young children to raise. A sister, Gertrude Russell and brothers, William, Harry, Harold, Fred and Lloyd. Visitations 7-9 pm Sunday, 2-4 and 7-9 Monday, in Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor, where funeral services will be held 2 pm Tuesday, June 11, in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Fred Rhymes officiating. Interment at the Centre Falmouth Cemetery, Falmouth.
