  • Obituary: Eugene "Gene" R. Pantano, 80 of Franklin died September 1 in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Brockton after a long illness. He was the husband of the late Helen (Manookian) Pantano, who died in 1968. Born in Milford, May 31, 1929 the son of the late Ingenio and Gladys (Bruce) Pantano, Mr. Pantano was raised in Milford and had lived in Franklin since 1964. Mr. Pantano had been a self-employed painting contractor for most of his life. Mr. Pantano served in the Army during the Korean War, attaining the rank of Corporal. He was a member of the Plains Association of Milford, and the Milford Italian American Veterans Club. He enjoyed cooking, going to horse races and being with his children. He is survived by; his sons Richard "Yogi" P. Pantano and Robert "Rob" E. Pantano, both of Franklin. He was the brother of the late Dorothy Gonsalves and Alfred Pantano. He is also survived by many nieces and nieces. His funeral will be held on Saturday, September 5 from the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin, 131 Main St. in Franklin at 9:15 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church in Franklin at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Calling hours will be on Friday from 4-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the VA Hospital of West Roxbury, 1400 VFW Parkway, Boston, MA 02132 or the Hospice at the VA Hospital in Brockton, 940 Belmont St., Brockton, MA 02301.
