Obituary: BERLIN -- Delbert Russell Keene, 85, formerly of 109 Highland Park Ave., Berlin, died April 16, 2011, at NH State Veterans Home in Tilton.
He was born in Berlin, Jan. 15, 1926, to Leslie and Julia (Russell) Keene and was a lifelong resident. Prior to his retirement on July 1, 1989, he had been employed as a hydro operator for James River Company.
He was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church in Berlin, where he served as deacon and trustee of the church, a member of Berlin Lodge 89 I.O.O.F. and was Past Noble Grand of the Lodge.
He was was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and was involved in the invasion of Okinawa. He was a member of the White Mountain Post No. 2520 VFW. Delbert was an avid outdoorsman, who especially enjoyed deer hunting and loved to hunt with his beagles.
Members of the family include his wife of 63 years Dorothy (Burt) Keene of Berlin; a son, Robert Alan Keene of Jefferson; a step-grandson; three step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles Leonard Keene of Port Orange, Fla.; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
SERVICES: Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 79 High St. Berlin. Interment will follow in Lary Cemetery in Gorham. Relatives and friends may call at the Bryant Funeral Home, 180 Hillside Ave. Berlin on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
