Death: Mitral Stenosis Obituary: News of the sudden death of W Rupert Willett, president of the Willett Fruit Company of Dock Street, St John, shocked the community here on Thursday, Nov 7th. Though a sufferer from heart trouble for some months there was no thought that the end was so near. Mr Willett retired Wednesday night in his usual good spirits. About 3 o'clock in the morning Mrs Willett was awakened by his distressed breathing, and within a few minutes he passed away. Deep sympathy is felt for Mrs Willett and her son in their bereavement. Mr Willett was born Sept 24th, 1859, at Granville Centre, Nova Scotia. He was a son of Gilbert Willett, who lived to be an octogenarian, but whose last illness was of less than 2 hours duration. W Rupert Willett carried on fruit growing at Granville Centre until 5 years ago when he moved to St John, where he joined his son, John G, in the business he had established there. He was a member of the Church of England. he is survived by his wife, one son, an aged mother, two sisters, Mrs Henry O Walker, of Bridgetown, and Mrs Gilbert Calnek, of Granville Ferry, and 3 brothers, J. Reed, G Simco and Norman all of Granville Centre. The remains were brought to Granville on Saturday, and the funeral was from the home of Mrs Gilbert Calnek on Sunday afternoon, Rev FP Greatorex conducting the services.
