Obituary: Dorothy B. (Francis) Buchanan, 89, of Mashpee, passed away Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, at Cape Cod Hospital, surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of George K. Buchanan. She was born, raised and educated in Weymouth. She was a graduate of Weymouth High School, Class of 1940. Dorothy married her husband George "Ken" in 1942. They enjoyed 70 years of marriage together. Dorothy worked as a sales clerk in Buttners and Pendleton clothing stores. She was a member of the Osterville United Methodist Church. Dorothy volunteered at the Antique and Classic Boat Shows and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Gift Shop. Dorothy was an avid shopper, enjoyed the seashore but her greatest joy was spending time with her children, seven grandchildren and four great-granddaughters. Besides her husband George, she is survived by four children, Georgia Buchanan of Mashpee, Kenneth L. and his wife Barbara of Marblehead; Nancy J. DeCesare and her husband Roy of Brunswick, ME, and Cyndy O'Rourke and her husband Rick of Fairhaven. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Dorothy was predeceased by her sister, Marion Whiting, and her brother, Charles Francis. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 23, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Chapman, Cole and Gleason Funeral Home, 74 Algonquin Ave. (at Rte. 151), Mashpee. A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 10:30 in the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
