Obituary: The passing of Mrs. Mary MacDougall of New Haven, in the P.E.I. Hospital on October 3, 1945 shocked and saddened the hearts of her many friends and neighbours. The deceased who was born at New Haven Novermber 21, 1906 was the daughter of Mrs. Docherty and the late Kenneth Docherty.
Mrs. MacDougall had not been feeling well for a few weeks suffering from an attack of jaundice and on the advice of her doctor entered the hospital for treatment but all that doctors, nurses and loving hands could do to alleviate the suffering and restore health was done but God in his wisdom and unfailing love willed otherwise, for her work had ended, her earthly home was hers no more and as the dark hours of the night broke into the dawn of a beautiful day god called his loved one to her inheritance on high to receive the award of a beautiful soul.
In the passing of Mrs. MacDougall a true friend, mother and sister has gone on. She was honorably known not only in own community but the greater portion of the Province as well. A woman of devoted Christian character and virtue, ever upright, honest and fair in all her dealings she has left behing a wonderful memory of one whose sterling qualities will ever be an inspiration to higher and nobler deeds, not only in the home will she be greatly missed but in the community as well.
The late Mrs. MacDougall was a member of the Clyde River Presbyterian Church. Besides her sorrowing mother there are left to mourn their loss three children namely: Anita, Edison and Brent. Also her sisters and brother, Jean nurse Falconwood Hospital; Margaret, Mrs. Edgar Newson, Kingston; Edna, Mrs. Stanley Watts, Hunter River; Sgt. John Reginald at present in hospital in Montreal; Ena, nurse in training Falconwood Hospital; Louise, Montreal; Anna at home.
The funeral service was held on Friday October 5th. At short service at home by the pastor, Rev. T.W. Goodwill assisted by Donald Nicholson the remains were then taken to Clyde River Presbyterian Church where a very large number of friends gathered to pay respect to a beloved friend.
The service at the church was conducted by Rev. Mr. Goodwill who brought words of comfort and consideration to a grief stricken family. He was assisted by Rev. Mr. Skinner and Donald Nicholson. the hymns sung were: The Lord's My Shepherd and Abive With Me. Does Jesus Care was feelingly rendered by Mr. Nicholson. The body was tenderly laid to rest in the Clyde River Presbyterian Cemetery beside that of her father and sister.
The pall bearers were: Clarence Frizzell, Roland Buchanan, Michael Murphy, Duncan Gass, Richie MacPhee, Lloyd MacKinnon.
The floral tributes and many letters and cards of sympathy bore their own testimony of the love and respect of a large number of sorrowing hearts.
