  • Obituary: Robert Edward Eagle, 62, of Idaho Falls, died of a heart attack July 11, 2003, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls. He was born July 3, 1941, in Helena, Mont., to Henry Carlson Eagle and Dorotha Dee Hutt Eagle. He was educated in Idaho Falls. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science at Montana State University and received a Master of Science and Doctorate degrees in Political Science from American University. He was a National Merit Scholar and a Rhodes Scholar Finalist. On June 21, 1964, he married Carolyn Spangler. They divorced in 1988. He was a Professor of Political Science at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio from 1967 to 1971; a Professor of Political Science at University of Montana in Missoula from 1971to 1985 and was a Professor of Computer Science at Northern Montana College in Havre from 1985 to 1987. He was an active participant in social justice and civil rights issues. He was a member of Kiwanis and was active in the United Methodist Church. He enjoyed skiing, playing the piano and singing with a barbershop quartet, reading, writing, playing guitar and spending time with his friends and family. He was patient, selfless, creative and dignified and had a great sense of humor. He survived by his daughters, Amy Eagle (Eric Thompson) of San Francisco, Calif., and Ann Eagle of Billings, Mont.; brother, Richard (Joy) Eagle of Idaho Falls; sister, Betty Joan (Richard) Steadman of Lake Elsinore, Calif.
