  • Obituary: William Darrell Cortor, 83, a former senior chief petty officer in the Navy, died Dec. 22 [2009] at the Capital Hospice's Halquist Memorial Inpatient Center in Arlington. He had Parkinson's disease. Mr. Cortor, a Vienna resident, served in the Navy from 1945 until 1970 and was stationed in the Pacific during World War II and later aboard the destroyer tender USS Yosemite in the Atlantic. His tours took him to Newport, R.I.; Sidi Yahia, Morocco; Istanbul; Key West, Fla.; Guantanamo Bay, Cuba; and Washington. After his retirement from the military, he was a program analyst for the Naval Security Group Command until 1986. A member of Columbia Baptist Church in Falls Church, Mr. Cortor enjoyed golfing and woodcarving. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Stella Mae Cortor of Vienna; a daughter, Lori Cortor of Vienna; and a sister Dorothy Inman. Born in Flat River, Missouri on Nov. 19, 1926 Departed on Dec. 22, 2009 and resided in Vienna, VA. Service: Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2010 Cemetery: Arlington National Cemetery
