Eaton Jr., 72, a well-known lobster dealer and lifelong resident of Langsford Road, died Saturday in a Portland hospital after a brief illness. He was born in Cape Porpoise, a son of Fred M. Sr. and Nellie A. Langsford Eaton. He attended Kennebunkport schools. Mr. Eaton was a wholesale lobster buyer known to many along the coast of Maine and other parts of coastal New England. He took over his father's business, Fred M. Eaton and Sons Lobster, which was established in 1922. He remained active in the business until about a year ago, and still sold lobsters in Boston occasionally, said a son, Scott D. Eaton of Cape Porpoise. ''He was well-respected in the business,'' said his daughter, Carole Alexander of Biddeford. ''He knew everyone from up and down the coast - from Canada to Boston - and he never forgot a name or face.'' Growing up in a small town, Mr. Eaton knew everyone and had plenty of stories about the area. ''He never forgot anything about local history,'' his daughter said. Mr. Eaton touched the lives of many people, from the youngsters who sold him lobsters to older people he had known since childhood. Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Harriet Stone Eaton of Cape Porpoise; two sons, Scott D. Eaton of Cape Porpoise and Gary D. Eaton of Grand Rapids, Mich.; his daughter, Carole Alexander of Biddeford; a sister, Grace E. Ward of Kennebunkport; and four grandchildren. A spring memorial service is planned. Arrangements are by Bibber Memorial Chapel, Kennebunk. Portland Press Herald Portland,ME February 5, 1996
