  • Obituary: SANFORD, Reginald Ettinger; 83, Kennetcook, passed away peacefully with his family at his side January 5, 2013 at Colchester East Hants Regional Hospital. Born in Walton on May 14, 1929, he was the son of the late Lawson and Daisy (Ettinger) Sanford. Reg spent time sailing while employed as a Merchant Mariner, followed by a career with the Royal Canadian Air Force. Returning to Nova Scotia he worked as a truck driver, carpenter, and retired from the Department of Transportation as a dispatch officer. With the love of his life, Izetta (Ike) they raised their six children. Claudia White, her daughters, Brandy (Joey Boomer) and Shauna; Dawn (Paul) Bowser, their children, Chelsey (Keith Jesso), Mandi (Robbie Goudey), and Daniel; Sarah (Bill Withrow), their sons Michael, Jason, and Scott; Janet (Danny Patterson) and their children, Cpl. Lacey and Matthew; Daniel (Angela), their sons, Devin, Ryan, and Wyatt, and his great grandsons Brendan, Hayden, and Alex. Reg is also survived by his sisters Joan MacDonald, Verbina Smith, Vera Sanford, and Nadean Allen and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Izetta and son Dave, as well as sisters Stella Nauss and Janice Boyd; brothers Albro, Garfield (Bunny/Sandy), and Charles, in infancy. Reg loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, playing baseball, working in the woods, and his time at the camp. He was a past member of the West Gore Mixed Dart League, and a continuing member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 166. Reg was very proud of his children and grandchildren's many accomplishments and sporting achievements. Reg had many stories of his own life and of his cherished family and would bend the ear of anyone who would listen. He will be forever loved and sadly missed by all who knew him, and mostly by the family who thought the world of him as well. Donations in remembrance of Reg may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the Kennetcook United Church Cemetery Fund. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. in the J. Wilson Allen Funeral Home, Hwy 354 Kennetcook. Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. January 9, 2013 in the Kennetcook United Church, Kennetcook, Rev. Natalie Buchanan Rutherford officating, with a private family burial in the Kennetcook Cemetery, Kennetcook. Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of the J.
