  • Obituary: AUGUSTA - Arthur G. "Art" Buttrick, age 69, died on Jan. 20, 2011, at his home surrounded by his family following a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Arlington, Mass., on Nov. 19, 1941, the son of the late Gorham Buttrick and Rachel Grace (Dalrymple) Buttrick. Art grew up in Lexington and Chelmsford and was educated in Lexington, graduating from Lexington High School in 1959. He served in the U.S. Army from January 1960 until December 1965. He spent time stationed in Georgia and served as a military police officer in France. Once out of the military, he was an area supervisor with the Pinkerton Detective Agency. Art moved to Maine in 1966 and worked at Wyman & Simpson Construction. In 1967, he was hired by the Augusta Police Department, and retired after 29 years, as a lieutenant, in 1996. He served the city of Augusta with dignity and pride. After his retirement, Art worked for the State of Maine as a tobacco and liquor enforcement agent, and also transported senior citizens for the Cohen Center in Manchester. Art was predeceased by his parents. Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Linda L. (Bulger) Buttrick, of Augusta; his daughter, Suzanne Caron, and her husband, Michael, of Augusta; his son, Jonathan Buttrick, of Woonsocket, R.I.; his grandson, Mitchell Caron, and his granddaughter, Sarah Caron, both of Augusta; his brother, Alan Buttrick, and his wife, Barbara, of Nashua, N.H.; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Harold and Lois Bulger, of Vassalboro; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Paul and Elizabeth Bourgoin, of Winslow; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Greg and Diana Bulger, of Falling Waters, W.Va.; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Committal with military honors will follow at the Maine Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta. Kennebec Journal Augusta,ME January 22,2011)
