  • Obituary: Chronicle Herald Halifax,NS April 15,2005 MacPHEE, Elroy "Roy" - Truro, passed away April 13, 2005 in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro, after a lengthy illness. Born October 29, 1915, in Oldham, Halifax Co., he was a son of the late Ruben and Mary (MacDonald) MacPhee. He enrolled in active duty No. 6 District Depot Canadian Army March 3, 1943. He served in the UK and Continental Europe with the rank of Lance Corporal and was wounded in Holland during December 1944. He spent more than two years recuperating in Camp Hill Hospital. He was presented with the Canadian Volunteer Medal "The 1939-1945 Star", The Atlantic Medal, "The France and Germany Star", and the Defense Medal. He worked in the logging woods, was a carpenter, and for 31 years worked as a Custodian at Victoria Street School (Industrial Arts Building), Truro. He was a resident of Truro for the past 53 years, a member of St. Andrew's United Church, and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26, Truro. He was a loving husband, stepfather, stepgrandfather and step great-grandfather. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, fiddle and bagpipe music and was a great dancer. Roy will be greatly missed by his wife of 53 years, Mary Angevine Bowman; stepdaughter, Ethel (Rev. Dr. Gerald G.) Wyrwas, Lynnfield, Mass.; stepson, Cecil Bowman, Nine Mile River; stepgrandchildren, Margaret Wyrwas (Peter Thorner), Westport, Conn.; David Wyrwas, Merrimack, N.H.; Susan (Kevin) Winters, South Easton, Mass.; Craig Bowman, Florida; Kurt (Lorna) Bowman, Acton, Ont.; Neal (Renee) Bowman, Scarborough, Ont.; Kyla Bowman, Enfield; Candace Bowman, Nine Mile River; nine step great-grandchildren; half-brothers, Gordon MacPhee, Sudbury, Ont.; Joseph MacPhee, Halifax; Vernon, North Bay, Ont.; Earle (Sonny), Cochrane, Ont.; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a twin brother in infancy; step great-grandson, Thomas Winters; half-brothers, Melbourne Bonang, Reginald MacPhee, Philip MacPhee, Stanley MacPhee, Norman MacPhee, David MacPhee; half-sisters, Mary and Rose Marie MacPhee. Visitation will be held today from 6-9 p.m. with a Royal Canadian Legion Tribute at 7 p.m., and funeral service on Saturday at 2 p.m., all in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Rev. Dr. Gerald G. Wyrwas officiating. Interment in Sand Hill Cemetery, Upper Nine Mile River.
