  • Obituary: New Hampshire Union Leader (Manchester, NH) - Tuesday, December 9, 2014 NEWMARKET -- Lionel "Nelly" Labonte passed away in his home on Dec. 7, 2014, after a courageous battle with Glioblastoma (GBM). Lionel was born the son of Joseph Albert Labonte and Anna (Benoit) Labonte on Aug. 16, 1936. He grew up on his family's farm with his four siblings. Lionel loved to hunt along Great Bay. He took pride in selectively shooting only the biggest bucks . . . no does. Lionel also proudly served his country as a sergeant in the Army's 82nd Airborne Division where he was awarded Trooper of the Month. He had many fond memories of his time in the service as a PT instructor and paratrooper. After his time in the 82nd, Lionel returned home and married his sweetheart Greta "Beth" Dalrymple. They were blessed with five children. Together they enjoyed 35 years of marriage before her death due to ALS in October of 1997. Most folks knew Lionel as a frugal businessman '96 "Uncle Nelly", the owner of Stratham Tire for the past 53 years. He lived an accomplished life managing the demands of his family and thriving business. He spent his leisure time traveling with his family, flying his Cherokee Six airplane, hunting and taking long walks on his properties. Lionel is survived by his son, Eric Labonte of Exeter, and four daughters, Renee Buzzell and her husband James of Somersworth; Denise Littlefield and her husband Bryan of Newmarket; Michele; and Virginia Russell and her husband Joshua of Fremont. Lionel also had five grandchildren; Chevelle (Buzzell) Bazo and her husband Brodie, Lauren Buzzell, Devan Littlefield, John Littlefield and Samuel Labonte. He also leaves one brother, Fr. Roger Labonte, and two sisters, Rachael Dalrymple and Agnes King. He was predeceased by his sister Lucille Merrill.. services: Visitation will be held at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter, on Friday, Dec. 12, 2014, from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary's Church, 182 South Main St., Newmarket, at noon on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2014. Refreshments will be served at the Three Chimney's Inn in Durham, from 1:30 '96 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either NH Catholic Charities, Missionaries of Africa, Smile Train or Rockingham Hospice.
