  • Obituary: Robert David Woodcock Born in Haverhill, MA on Mar. 2, 1928 Departed on Dec. 3, 2010 and resided in Putney, VT. Service: Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010 Dr. Robert Woodcock passed away peacefully on Friday, December 3rd in the company of his beloved wife and family. Dr. Robert Woodcock was born in 1928 to Harold S. and Hazel B. (Phinney) Woodcock from Haverhill, Mass. He was the forth of six children. He graduated from Haverhill High School in 1946 and entered the U.S. Navy for a period of two years. After returning from the Navy he attended National College of Chiropractic in Chicago, Illinois, and then served the public as a chiropractic physician from 1952 until 2010. In 1952 he married Suzanne Lukens from Morrrisville, PA. They lived in Newtown, PA. where he practiced for 13 years. In 1965 he returned to New England with his family and opened the Woodcock Chiropractic Clinic in Guilford, VT with his brother Dr. Donald Woodcock. Soon after establishing his practice he served as the president of the Vermont Chiropractic Association. In 1968 he studied with Dr. Tao of China and then opened the first acupuncture clinic in Vermont located in Wilmington. Dr. Bob was the first of several family members who joined his profession. These included his sister Dr. Dorothy Woodcock, brother Dr. Donald Woodcock, daughter Dr. Elizabeth (Woodcock) Gillespie who continues to practice at the Woodcock Clinic, and nephew Dr. Dan Woodcock of Barre, Vermont. In 1985 Bob and his wife Suzanne moved to Putney, Vermont. He loved his work and his patients and he loved to have fun. His enthusiasm for sports was infectious. He participated in many activities and especially liked to teach skills to others. Among his favorite past-times were riding a unicycle, lariat spinning, skiing, skating, sailing, tennis, golf, bowling, archery, horseshoes, and bocce. He was a lover of music which he expressed in many ways. He enjoyed singing as a member of the Keene Barber Shoppers and the Dummerston Congregational Church choir. He played the harmonica and accordion and was a clever composer of poetry which he enjoyed singing to the tune of his favorite songs and hymns. Robert was a deeply faithful man. He leaves behind his wife Suzanne, sister Shirley Walker, daughter and son-in law Elizabeth and Jamie Gillespie, son and daughter-in-law Timothy and Mary Woodcock, granddaughters Megan and Rebecca , and grandson Anders. A service will be held to celebrate his life on Saturday, December 11, 2010 at Dummerston Congregational Church at 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dummerston Congregational Church.
