Dad's long and accomplished journey began on September 26th, 1921 in Killarney, Manitoba, the only son of Percy Norman and Margaret (nee Manson) Murray. He spent his formative years in Manitoba, earning a B.A. from the University of Manitoba in 1939, followed by an M.A. from the University of Toronto and a Law degree from Osgoode Hall. In 1948 Dad traveled west and settled in Vancouver where he practiced law with the firm of Bull, Housser & Tupper for close to 40 years. During his career he had many achievements, one being a founding member of the 20 Club, a prestigious group of lawyers who continue to meet. On February 17th, 1956 Dad married the love of his life, Rhea Doris Cooper, and within a very short time they welcomed three daughters. Dad worked tirelessly and selflessly to provide for his family's interests, especially the horses and stable, and extensive accompanying activities. Our memories are testament to his honour and dedication. He was also a man of strong faith, and was very involved with St. Andrew's-Wesley United Church and continued to support their causes until his death. After Dad retired and when their children were finally on their own, Mom and Dad enjoyed traveling to distant places with friends and family. At the age of 79, Dad suffered a devastating stroke, and we were awestruck by his courage and strength as he overcame so many obstacles. Hugh is survived by his sisters Mary McTavish, Eleanor Higham, and Alison (Eugene) Rousset. He also leaves his three daughters Alison (James Stewart), Christina and Patricia, and his six grandchildren Mattias, Piers, Torsten, Roan, Mia, and Wilson. Dad was predeceased by his parents and many friends and colleagues over the years, but most significant was the loss of his soul mate and life partner Rhea Murray on July 25th, 2005. The family would like to extend a special appreciation to those who continued to share Dad's extraordinary wit and wisdom after Mom died. A service will be held on Friday, April 11th at 2:30pm at St. Andrew's-Wesley United Church, 1022 Nelson Street, Vancouver, followed by a reception at the Vancouver Club, 915 West Hastings Street.
