  • Obituary: Bridgewater Bulletin September 1994 The community of Northwest was truly saddened when learning of the passing of Duncan Spidell at the Fishermen's Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg, on Saturday, September 17, 1994. Born in Scarsdale, he was the son of the late Manson and Annie (Ramey) Spidle. Duncan was a member of the Northwest United Baptist Church where he was a deacon, a choir member for 58 years, a past Sunday School Superintendent, and member of the Baptist Men's Brotherhood. He had been employed with Maritime Manufacturers for 32 years, also Design Wood Products of Northwest. Duncan was a sales consultant with Heritage Memorials Ltd. He was an avid woodworker, and during his retirement years he enjoyed making wooden clocks and violins. Duncan had an enthusiastic outlook on life, spiced with humour, and was a friend to young and old. Because of his love for people, he touched many lives during his 81 years. He is survived by his second wife, Alice; his daughter, Frances (Mrs. David Ernst); three step-daughters, Bertha (Mrs. Junior Boliver); Beatrice DesRoche; Darlene (Mrs. Robert Blackadar); and two step-sons, Douglas Kirkpatrick and William Kirkpatrick; four sisters, Winnie Luce; Dorothy (Mrs. Millage Gates); Jean (Mrs. John Whynot); Beatrice (Mrs. Frank Clarkson); two brothers, Olin Spidle and Beecher Spidle; two grandchildren;two great-grandchildren; 17 step-grandchildren; and numerous step great grandchildren, plus many nieces and nephews. The deceased rested at the Mahone Funeral Home until September 20, 1994, when he was taken to Northwest United Baptist Church. There the funeral service was conducted by the Rev. Andrew Crowell; organist was Evangeline (Mrs. Fenwick Whynot); choir members from Mahone Bay and New Cornwall joined the Northwest Church choir rendering, "Did You Think to Pray This Morning." Favourite scripture passages were read by Duncan's dear friend, the Rev.George Allen. Pallbearers were Murray Berringer, Robert Blackadar, Junior Boliver, Wilson Hunsley, Nelson Ramey, and Jack Whynot. Burial was in the Northwest United Baptist Cemetery.
