Born in Amherst, Don was the third son of Col Charles Bent and Daisy (Cutten) Bent. At an early age he made his home in Paradise where he married his partner for life, Doris Elizabeth Langille and raised their seven children. In later years they also lived in Lawrencetown and Bridgetown, but Paradise always remained "home". Don served his country proudly during the Second World War driving motorcycle for the reconnaissance team. For most of his working life Don made a career until retirement as a civilian employee for the Dept of National Defense at CFB Greenwood. He was a proud member of the Bridgetown Legion for 72 years where he served on the executive and assisted with Bingo. Always community minded, he willingly volunteered his time on various projects. Don was always happiest when spending time with family whether it be camping or picnics and especially any time that included food and a good game of crib or 45's. Don also enjoyed many trips to visit family in Alberta and to southern climates, especially Puerto Vallarta. Don's children are particularly thankful for the years he gave as primary caregiver to our mother as her health failed. He was forever dedicated to her care until her passing 11 years ago. For much of that time they were entertained by their special friend, Garnet LeCain, who provided countless stories, hours of card playing and drives into the back roads of the Valley. Don is survived by his seven children, Carol (Gene Elliott) O'Neill, Eric (Jackie) Bent, Sandy Bent, Chuck (Bonny) Bent, Nancy (Rob) Beals, Larry Bent, and Sherri (Karla Pedersen) Bent. Also survived by grandchildren, Mike (Christy) O'Neill, Sean (Meagan) O'Neill, Kevin (Julie) Bent, Tanya Mood, Dallas Bent, Lisa (Phil) Marasco, Tricia (Dan)Doherty, DJ (Brittany) Bent, Matthew(Krystle) Beals, Kirk Beals, Cassie (Nick) Bent, Cory (Chantal) Bent, Jeremy Bent, Tristan Bent, Miranda (Chris) Bates, Morgan (Becky) Elliott, Natacha Rowsell. Don was also very proud of his 22 great grandchildren. Besides his parents, Don was predeceased by brothers, Ted and Bert. Don's family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the entire staff of the DVA Unit in Middleton for the wonderful care given to our Dad. You truly provided comfort to him and to us and for that we are grateful. A Celebration of Life will take place at 11:00 am Saturday, June 30, 2018 in the Bridgetown Legion. In Don's memory, donations may be made to the DVA at SMH, to the Kings Co. SPCA or to charity of choice.
