Obituary: Bessie Maude (Thompson) McCarthy … 95, Truro, passed away Saturday, June 5, 2010, in Cedarstone Enhanced Care. Born December 9, 1914, in River Hebert, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Lora Thompson. For many years, she worked at the Open Kitchen Guest House on Pictou Road.
Bessie was the last surviving member of her immediate family and is survived by daughters, Florence (Cecil) Stewart, North River; Patricia (Thomas) Donaldson, Bessie (Kenneth) Mullins, Truro; sons, Charles, Hector (Brenda), Truro; seven grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, John Arnold "Jack" McCarthy; daughter, Frances; sons, William, Dexter; sisters, Beatrice, Grace, Jennie; brothers, David, Clarence, Frederick, Wilfred, Laurie; granddaughter, Nancy Stewart.
A private graveside service will be held in Terrace Hill Cemetery at a later date. If so desired, donations in Bessie's memory to Palliative Care Unit of Colchester Regional Hospital are welcomed. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro.
