  • Historical Information: Martha Evelyn was the daughter of John and Martha Johnson. She was admitted to the Boston Female Asylum for girls in need when she was 11 years old, with her younger sister Caroline. When she came of age, she was hired to work in the asylum as a teacher in the schoolroom. After a long term of ill health, she was admitted to the Waltham Hospital on April 6, 1903, and died there ten days later. She was 24 years old. Funeral services were held at the asylum's Lexington home, and she was originally buried at the Lexington Cemetery, but when the institution sold their lot at Lexington, her body was reburied at the Cedar Grove Cemetery on June 19, 1906.
