  • Obituary: HALIFAX HERALD '96 4 July 2005 CANFIELD, Basil Clifford - 70, Elm Street, Pictou, passed away suddenly July 1, 2005, at home. Born in Wallace, he was a son of the late Clifford and Laura (Chambers) Canfield. Basil had a lifelong love of sport, from his early days as a strong competitor in basketball and baseball, to harness racing, and later as an avid hockey fan, particularly junior hockey. He loved to drive, and would follow his sports passions across the province. A welder by trade, he had been a retired employee of the Car Works in Trenton, where he spent over 20 years. Basil was well-known as a kind and generous gentleman, and will be missed by his cherished son, Don; beloved brother, Don (Marjie), Pictou; dear nieces, Lori, Halifax; and Janet (Frank), Toronto. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday in Pictou United Church, with Rev. Mary-Beth Moriarity officiating. Burial will be in Seaview Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to Canadian Diabetes Association or a charity of your choice.
