Hindes, Jr. of Peabody, formerly of Reading and Stoneham, died August 5, 2014 at The Atrium at Veronica Drive in Danvers. He was 80. Joseph was born in Melrose, Massachusetts on August 31, 1933 the son of the late Joseph T. and Irene (Phinney) Hindes. Joseph was a resident of Reading for 47 years prior to moving to Peabody 9 years ago. Joseph was a retired Reading Firefighter and was a longtime member and Past President of the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF). While working as a firefighter he attended night school at Northern Essex Community College and received his degree as a Registered Nurse. After retiring from the fire department he worked as a Registered Nurse at Lowell General Hospital. Joseph will be remembered for his love for animals. Joseph was the beloved husband of the late Patricia M. (Walsh) Hindes who died this past December. Devoted father of Debra L. Hindes of Haverhill; John T. Hindes and his wife Nancy of Pasadena MD; Steven S. Hindes and his wife Jane of Derry, NH; and Joseph P. Hindes of Cambridge. Cherished brother of William Hindes and his late wife Jane of Vernon CT and Judith Lee and her husband Robert of Cape Neddick ME. Loving grandfather of Daniel and Andrew Hindes; Kelly Bemis and many other grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held Monday, August 11 at the Douglass, Edgerley and Bessom Funeral Home 25 Sanborn St. (corner of Woburn St.) Reading at 11 am.
