  • Obituary: The Register, Berwick, N.S. published 4 November 1936 There passed away at Western Kings Memorial Hospital, on Thursday, Oct. 15, Mr. Alfred Phinney of Melvern Square. Mr. Phinney was taken ill Saturday and on Sunday was removed to the home of his niece, Mrs. S. B. Hicks, Aylesford. Later it was found necessary to take him to the hospital to relieve his intense sufferings. He failed to rally from the operation, He is the last surviving member of the family of George S. Phinney and Evelyn Gates Phinney of Melvern Square. He was in his 83rd year and was unmarried. A prosperous farmer, he lived practically his entire life in Melvern Square. The deceased was a highly respected citizen, beloved by all who knew him, and his passing will be deeply mourned by a large circle of friends. He was a devoted member of the United Baptist Church and was at all times interested in the good work pertaining to the church and community. He is survived by the following nieces and nephews: Mrs. Fred Lyons, Weston, Mass.; Mrs. Walter Curry, Milton, Mass.; Mrs. William Slater and Mrs. Ernest Ritchey, Waltham, Mass.; Mrs. S. B. Hicks and Mrs. C. S. Horsnell, Aylesford; Arthur Hatt, Milton, Queens County; Fred and Ingram Bowlby, Auburn; Clarence Phinney, Revere, Mass.; Winslow Tilby, Connecticut. The funeral was held on Saturday, the 17th, from the home of Mrs. Hicks, Aylesford, conducted by Rev. Milton Munn, assisted by Rev. L. F. Wallace. Interment was in Aylesford Cemetery.
