It is with great sadness that the family announces the death of Gordon on November 6, 2010. Gordon was born in Barrachois, Arichat Island, Cape Breton, the son of the late George and Mary (Boudreau) Latimer. Gordon moved to Toronto at the age of eighteen where he met and married Clara Roode of East Earltown. The couple eventually moved back to Nova Scotia, settling in Barrachois, near Tatamagouche, where they raised their children. Gordon was a true jack of all trades and turned his hand to carpentry, maintenance of furnaces and service station pumps, mechanics, trucking, auto body repair and auto salvage. When Gordon and Clara moved to Tatamagouche in the late '50s, he was involved in the construction and management of an Irving service station that became the first garage to offer 24 hour service on the North Shore. Gordon loved music, animals, sunsets, family, friends and his faithful dogs, Duffy and Simon. He is remembered by his family as a man of great constitution who was a hard-working, ingenious, kind, generous and fair man who drove a hard bargain and loved a good deal. Gordon is survived by his daughters, Sharon Norman, Bible Hill, her daughters, Tracy (Gordon Roach) White, Laura Jardine and her daughter Desarae; Mary Mattatall, Tatamagouche, and her children Rosemarie (Scott) Dobson and Ian (Kerri) Mattatall; Carol (Carley) White, Barrachois, and their children Owen and Lyle; brothers, John (Corona) Latimer and Billy (Sally) Latimer; sisters Christine (Vincent) Boudreau, Claire (Buddy) Hull and Emilie Calder; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents Gordon was predeceased by his former wife, Clara; their infant daughter, Janet Leigh; and his Aunt Mamie (Latimer) MacDonald who was a second mother to him. The family would like to thank Gordon's many caregivers, including home care workers and health professionals in Tatamagouche, Truro, New Glasgow and the QEII. All of the people at Willow Lodge are to be thanked for their kindness, compassion, excellent careā€¦and of course, the great home-cooking! Visitation will be held Monday, November 8th, from 7-9 p.m. with the funeral service at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 9th, both in Coulter's Funeral Home, Tatamagouche (657-3288). Rev.
