  • Obituary: March 18, 1938 - May 19, 2012 Carter, Evelyn J. '96 74, East Leicester, Cumberland County, passed away Saturday, May 19, 2012, at home. Born in Springhill, she was a daughter of the late Fred and Helen (Brownell) Thomas. Evelyn was a stay at home Mom who was very dedicated to her family, bringing up six loving children with her husband Aubrey. She learned to do a lot with a little through some tough times and was known for her generosity and kindness towards others. She loved knitting sweaters for her grandchildren and doing her crossword puzzles. Evelyn was a member of the Happy Neighbours Club and a member of Cedar Temple # 21 of the Pythian Sisters, Oxford. Surviving are her loving husband, Aubrey; children, Richard (JoAnn) Chapman, Cambridge, Kings Co.; Betty Jean "B.J." (Dan) MacIntosh, Sackville, N.B.; Fred (Stephanie) Carter, Halifax; Sue (Gary) Bristol, Bridgewater; Darrin (Renee) Carter, East Leicester; Magi Carter, Oxford; grandchildren, Jennifer (Ray), Mike (Teena), Tracy (Mark), Sarah (Jonathan), Joe (Michelle), Nathan (Claire), Garrett (Mallory), Darcy, Justin, Cody, Mitchell, Kyle; great-grandchildren, Aly, Gavin, Katie, Rennie, Lyndon, Raymond, Julia, Sydni, Sophie; sister, Janet (Freeman) Tattrie, Oxford; brothers, Ronald (Ethel) Thomas, Grand Cache, N.B.; Earl (Marion) Thomas, Little River; Gerald Thomas, Prince George, B.C.; several nieces and nephews, as well as special caregivers, Crystal Dixon and Holly Gordon. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her first husband, Carl Chapman. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, in MacDiarmid's Funeral Home, 5075 Main St., Oxford (447-2930), from where the funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 24. Lawry MacLeod officiating. Burial in Thomson Cemetery, Thomson Station, reception to follow at MacDiarmid's Funeral Home. Donations in memory may be made to the Huntington's Society of Canada (Nova Scotia Chapter) or the Thomson Cemetery.
