  • Obituary: Horace V. Hinckley of Salem and formerly of Winthrop passed away at the Aviv Center for Living in Peabody on June 11, 2015. He was 91 years old. Born in Boston, he was the beloved son of the late Mary Ellen (Murphy) and Walter Hinckley. A longtime resident of Winthrop, he served in the U.S Naval Air Force, Squadron VC81, aboard the USS Natoma Bay CVE 62 aircraft carrier, Asiatic Pacific Campaign, 1942 - 1945. After his honorable discharge, he went on to work as a technician for AT&T for over 37 years. He was the devoted husband of Margaret (Phinney) and the loving father of Claire Wholly of Gloucester, Martha Neufeld of New York, Christine Holly of Vero Beach, Florida, Thomas Hinckley of Rochester, New Hampshire, Louis Hinckley of Framingham, Francis Hinckley of Middleton and Mary Beth Smith of Salem. Also survived by 15 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend the funeral mass in the St. John the Evangelist Church 320 Winthrop St., Winthrop on Monday, June 15, 2015 at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow the mass in the Belle Isle section of Winthrop Cemetery.
