  • Obituary: Innes, Richard Allen "Rick" Born April 8, 1937 in Jollimore, NS. Age 82, of Lower Branch, NS, passed away on September 28, 2019, in the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater, surrounded by the great big love of his family. He was the son of the late Stephen and Marjorie (Manuge) Innes. Richard started his working career at 18 years of age, at the HMCS Dockyard in Halifax. He relocated to Bridgewater in 1966 to start his career at Canadian Overseas Communication, in Mill Village, which later became known as Teleglobe Canada. He started as a rigger, and also came to be a refrigeration technician and truck driver until his retirement from Teleglobe in 1992. A lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 24, Bridgewater, he received the Legion Meritorious Award in 2007: the highest award the Legion offers a civilian for their community/Legion service. His big heart and willingness to always be of service was recognized by many, veterans and friends alike. At home, you would find him in his garage, tinkering away and fixing anything with a motor. He loved a good round of golf, a passion shared with his son Paul. He also enjoyed playing hockey with friends in the 'Old Timers' hockey league. He was an avid salmon fisherman and hunter in his younger years. In the last few years he, along with his wife Carol, enjoyed going to card parties and made many new friends. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 57 years, Carol (Gilbert); his daughter Deanna (Laurie) Demond and son Paul. He was cherished by his granddaughters; Ashley (Hastings-James), Emily (Hastings-James) and Faith (Demond), and one great grandson Finn. Also dearly missing him will be his siblings, Nancy (Fred) Harries, Stowe, Vt.; Betsy Cooke, Oxford; Margaret (Earl) Croft, Dartmouth; Judy (Frank) Bain, Hants Border; Heather (Eddie) Schyf, Cobble Hill, BC; Keith (Sheila), Boutilier's Point; Sandra Innes, Windsor; Bruce (Jean), Hammonds Plains; Susan Manning & Frances Checkley, Halifax and Deborah Innes, Upper Vaughan; sister-in-law Elaine Innes, Bridgewater; brother-in law, Ralph Wheadon, Timberlea; brother-in-law Gilbert Cooke, Gulf Shore Road, NS; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; Marjorie and Dick Innes, brothers William and Donald; and sisters, Josephine (Blackburn), Genesta (Wheadon), and Caroline (Cooke). While we are sad to see him leave, they will be so delighted to see him again. A deep and heartfelt thank you to the nurses at the SSRH, for their empathetic care of Dad, in his months spent there; you were wonderful and kind. Thank you to Dr. Thomas McNally at SSRH for overseeing Dad's care. A special thank you to Dad's 'sitters', whose patience and sweetness can only come from a genuine heart. Lastly, a dear and special heartfelt thanks to Lucy, our night angel. A 'Celebration of Life' will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 24, Bridgewater from 2-4pm on Thursday, October 3, 2019. If someone wishes to donate to charity, please pick one dear to your heart. R.A. Corkum Funeral Home Ltd. Bridgewater,NS October 1,2019
