  • Obituary: BATES, Donald - 82, Queen Street, Westville, passed away on Monday, November 4, 2002, in The New Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born in Westville in 1919, he was a son of the late Percy and Jenny (Jeffers) Bates. He was an overseas war veteran of the Second World War. After the war, he worked for the Department of Highways from where he retired. He was a member of the Overseas War Veteran's Association, the Westville Heritage Group, the Westville Bowling Group, and a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Westville. Donald is survived by his daughter, Donelda Robson (Robie), Halifax; sons, Laurie (Jean), New Glasgow; Frank (Verna), Trenton; James (Darlene), Durham; Rick (Susan), Trenton; brother, George (Marion), New Glasgow; his companion, Carol Carter; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Edna Chambers; brothers, Lloyd and Carl. Visitation will be held 1 to 1:45 p.m. Thursday in Eagles Funeral Home,Westville, where funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Rev. Charles MacPherson officiating. Burial will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Overseas War Veterans Comfort Fund, Pictou.
