It is with great heartache to announce the passing of Charlie, on May 22, 2013 in Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow. Charlie was born on June 25, 1930 to the late Melvin and Beatrice (Stevenson) Laurie, at the home place on the Upper River John Road where Charlie resided for 82 years. Charlie worked in the sawmill industry for more than fifty years. He was very fond of horse races and any sport that involved Boston, especially the Bruins or Red Sox. Charlie had a tremendous amount of love for animals and over the years he provided many dogs and cats with a warm, loving home and spoiled them all as if they were his kids. After retirement he spent countless hours working on his woodlot with his brother, Jim. We now like to believe that they are working on the eternal woodlot high above. Charlie was a true blue Torie. Surviving are his sister, Margaret, at home; brother, Orland MacPherson and his family, Eliot, Maine, USA; nieces, Kathy McKay (Dougie Tattrie), Brenda Laurie, Angie Hupman (Ron); nephews, Dennis McKay (Tammy), Mark McKay, (Tammy), Richard Laurie, David Laurie; grand nieces and grand nephews, Ashlie Laurie, Brandon Laurie, Shauna Tattrie, Kelli Tattrie, Justin Tattrie, Melissa MacBurnie (Chris), Samantha McKay, Adam Archibald, Justin Archibald; great grand-nieces and great grand-nephews, Caden Laurie, Bella MacBurnie, Noah MacBurnie; sister-in-law, Jessie Laurie; brother-in-law, Willard McKay. Charlie was predeceased by sister, Vera McKay (1975); brothers, Jimmie (2006), John (2011), Archie (2012); sister-in-law, Mae (2012). At Charlie's request there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. a graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, June 8, 2013 at Forest Hill Cemetery, Denmark, Rev. Mary Anne Grant officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your local SPCA. The family would like to thank the staff of Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital and Glen Haven Manor for the excellent care Charlie received while staying at both places.
