Loved by all, especially her devoted husband, Dudley and five daughters, Bernice was known for her generous heart, sympathetic ear and indomitable and energetic spirit. Her infectious sense of fun and humour was a joy to be around. In 1921, Bernice moved to the River John area near her family's homestead and in 1939 married Dudley, who was to become a partner in one of the largest construction and manufacturing companies in Atlantic Canada. Eastern Woodworkers and its subsidiary, Eastern Contracting, took Bernice and Dudley many places during their nearly 65 year marriage. Living in New Glasgow, Amherst, St. John's, Gander, Summerside, Middleton, Sheet Harbour and Halifax, Bernice loved her family and nothing better than to decorate the house for Christmas, Easter, Halloween and birthdays. She made jewelry, hooked rugs, quilts, needlepoints, and the best homemade bread and apple pie you ever ate. During the 50s Bernice helped with the Hungarian Refugees in Gander. For over 40 years, she belonged to the UCW at Bethany United Church, Halifax. Bernice will be sadly missed by all. She was predeceased by an infant daughter; Patricia; twin brother, Earl Tattrie; sisters, Gladys Dunbar and Corrine MacLanders. She is survived by brother, Edward Tattrie; loving husband, Dudley; daughters, Joyce (Rev. Calvin Pretty), Audrey (Vernon Grantham), Donna (Eugene Tymchuk), Julia Langille and Faye Mingo; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held in J. A.
