Captain Spurr followed the sea successfully for many years. He was a pioneer of the Baptist Church in this place. Of their 14 children, 9 survive. Funeral service was held on Sunday afternoon 15th at the Baptist Church, Reverend AH Saunders officiating, interment in the family lot at Smith's Cove.
