  • Obituary: Kent, James Arthur - Age 87, Lower Truro, passed quietly in the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro on May 14th, 2021 with his family by his side. Jim was the sixth generation of Kent on the farm in Lower Truro, where he was born. He lived and worked on the farm for 85 years until he was sidelined with PSP. Jim's life was his farm and his community. He was a charter member of the Cobequid District Fire Brigade, serving as treasurer for 27 years, firetruck driver and various committees for over 38 years. He was a member of the Old Barns United Church and served multiple terms on the Board of Stewards. He was an active member of the Clifton and Colchester County Federations of Agriculture and Scotsburn Milk Producers and chairman of the Lower Truro Marsh Body and a 4-H leader for many years. Jim also served as a director of the Truro Cemetery Corporation and was a regular blood donor with over 150 lifetime donations. Jim is survived by his wife, Glenda (nee Newson); sons, Colin (Wanda) and Craig (Jane) Kent; daughter, Nancy (Scott) Smith; grandchildren, Mallery (Brad), Matthew (Katlyn) and Olivia Kent, Megan, Mandy (Wilson) and Kent Smith; great-grandchildren, Tom, Layne and Jamie; brother, Everard, St. Catharines, Ont.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Stephen Jefferson, Wally Fisher, Janet Kent and Mabel Newson; special family members, Mike Zinck, Hiromi Hirobe, and the Newson family. Jim was predeceased by his parents, Hedley and Alice (Clarke) Kent; sisters, Katie and Mary; brother, John; sister-in-law, Elaine; brother-in-law, Wayne Newson. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a celebration of Jim's life will take place at a later date. Memorials in his name may be made to the Truro Cemetery, Old Barns United Church, Cobequid District Fire Brigade, the PSP Society of Canada or a charity of your choice.
