Notes

  • Obituary: Marjorie A. Vongroven, 79, of Winona, died Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, at her home. She was born Nov. 12, 1930, in Winona to Marvin J. and Ruth A. (Dabelstein) Christopherson. She was a postal clerk in the Winona Post Office for 28 years, retiring in 1995. She was a lifelong area resident. On June 6, 1951, she married Garland V. Vongroven at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Winona, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 16, 2003. Marjorie was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church; she was also a member and secretary of the Winona County Old Settler's Association; a member and secretary of Pleasant Valley Cemetery Association and the Pleasant Valley Social Club. She was an avid reader and thoroughly enjoyed crossword puzzles. She was a passionate collector of Precious Moments figurines and collector plates. She enjoyed feeding and watching birds, as well as the other wildlife on her wooded acreage. Family time (her other precious moments), never happened without her camera at the ready--as evidenced by many photo albums filled with those memories. She is survived by six children, Steven M. (Lynn) Vongroven of Sturgeon Lake, Minn., Kristen (Alan) Bielema of New York Mills, Minn., Laurie (Willis) Bale of Rochester, Lynn (Charles) Harstad of Chatfield, Scott M. (Pamela) Vongroven of Canton, S.D., and Kari (Kenny) Crook of La Crosse, Wis.; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two sisters, Mary Cady of Winona and Karen Haedtke of Wilson, Minn. Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two brothers-in-law. Funeral services for Marjorie will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Winona, with the Rev. Dr. Larry Green and the Rev. Dr. Douglas Sparks officiating. Interment will be at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Winona. Friends may call on Friday, Nov. 20, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home, Winona, and then on Saturday, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at church.
