Cady, age 87 of Winona died at Lake Winona Manor Tuesday, Feb. 24,2015. Mary was born April 24, 1927, in Winona, to Marvin and Ruth (Dabelstein) Christopherson. She graduated from Winona High School, then Kahler Hospital School of Nursing in 1948. Following graduation she was employed as a registered nurse for 20 years at the Winona Hospital. Over her long nursing career she also served as director of nursing at Sauer Memorial Home (Sauer Health Care), and employee health nurse for Warner-Swazey. She retired in 1988 as the director of in-service education at St. Anne Extended Healthcare. Mary was a lifelong member of St Paul's Episcopal Church. She was proud to have been a member of the Cadet Nurse Corp during World War II '97 hers was one of the final classes sponsored by the U.S. government. Other memberships included the Widowed Person's Support Group, the Winona County Old Settlers Association, the Pleasant Valley Social Club, and the 4-H Club, where she was a leader for many years. On June 6, 1950, she married John Cady in Winona, and together they raised five children in Gilmore Valley. Jack preceded Mary in death Aug. 31, 1988. She is survived by her children, Mark(Jean) Cady, Minnetonka, Minn., Edith MacDougal, Winona, Sara (George) Thimmesch, Lake Geneva, Wis., and Gayle (Bruce) Kall, Rochester, Minn.; 14 grandchildren, Daniel, Alex, Andrew, Laura, Kevin, Andy, Isaac, Eli, Hannah, Sam, Ben, Jennifer and Jack; 10 great-grandchildren, Ethan, Kylie, Joey, Josie, Camden, Ava, Hailey, Gideon, Daxton and Teegan; a sister, Karen Headke, Wilson, Minn.; many nieces, nephews, and other family members. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her sister, Marjorie Vongroven. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today, Feb. 27, at Fawcett Junker Funeral Home, Winona, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Services to remember Mary will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Winona, with the Rev. Lawrence Green officiating. A spring interment will be held at Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Winona. Family requests memorials to St. Paul's Episcopal Church or the donor's choice.
