  • Obituary: Eleanor Whipple, resident at Good Samaritan Village in Estes Park, died Wednesday March 21, 2018 at the Estes Park Medical Center. She was 101 years old. Eleanor Whipple was born June 7, 1916 in Bellingham, WA. Her parents were Charles and Blanche (Campbell) Whipple. She graduated from the University of Washington at Seattle in 1938 with a Degree in Sociology, and in 1949 with a Masters' Degree in Social Work. In 1983 she received a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from the University of Santa Barbara, CA. In 1994, she was awarded an Honorary Doctorate for Doctor of Humane Letters. Eleanor Founded and was the CEO of Trinity College in Vista, CA. She began her career in social work as a field instructor, later becoming a Therapist, Counselor, Executive Director on her path to Presidency. She published several articles in professional papers and was a member of several professional organizations. Eleanor was active in social work well into her 80's, retiring after 20 years as Director of Hollygrove Children's Home in Hollywood, CA. advertisement In 2013 she moved to Estes Park, CO to be near her two nieces, Dawna Edwards and Debbie Lord. Eleanor loved the Lord and had been a member of the Disciples of Christ Church. She also enjoyed Art, Painting and Camping. She was a Girl Scout Leader and one of the first female Eagle Scouts. She is survived by her son, Larry Fowler and his wife Li of Switzerland, her nieces and a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and one daughter. There will be a gathering to celebrate Eleanor's life.
