  • Obituary: BALLENTINE William "Bill" Ballentine passed away on May 14, 2011 at the age of 64 after a brief illness. He was born in Brockton, MA on November 24, 1946 to William and Vonna "Jimmie" Ballentine. He grew up in St. Joseph, MO and attended Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, MO. During the Vietnam War, Bill enlisted in the Air Force but was subsequently honorably discharged for a medical condition. In 1979, he accepted a position with JP Stevens, a manufacturing company, and moved to San Antonio, TX. Shortly thereafter, his sales territory became the number one territory in the company. He met his future wife, got married and then his daughter was born. Bill is survived by his wife Anna of 27 years, his beloved daughter Allison, his brother David, his sister-in-law Patsy and countless friends and colleagues. Bill was an extremely passionate person and had numerous hobbies, including piloting single engine airplanes, Formula 1 racing, and astronomy. He rebuilt a Lotus automobile in the 1970s, which is still being raced today. He was an active member of the San Antonio Astronomical Society in which he was responsible for the club outreach program. Bill loved observing the sky and was interested in astro imaging. He created a website where he shared his images of the sky and stars. Bill also loved politics, on a national and local level, and often shared his views via letters to the editor in the San Antonio Express News. Bill had an extraordinary zest for life and enjoyed every single day with zeal unmatched by most. He will be remembered by all whose life he touched. Visitation followed by services will be held at Porter Loring at 2102 North Loop 1604 at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, May 18. A celebration of his life will follow. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Association. Published in Express-News on May 16, 2011
