  • Obituary: Herald and News (Klamath Falls, OR) - Monday, April 9, 2001 Milton Robert "Ole" Houston, 86, died April 4, 2001, of natural causes at his Chiloquin residence. Mr. Houston was born Aug. 6, 1914, in Red Lake Falls, Minn., to Charles and Tarshia (Rare) Houston. He was raised on a farm and attended a one-room schoolhouse about three-quarters of a mile from his home. He quit school in his sophomore year of high school to help his family with farm work. They raised cows, hogs and chickens and grew wheat, corn and barley. When he was 19 years old, he went to work for a Chevrolet garage in Red Lake Falls and later moved to Petaluma, Calif., where he worked at Sanderson's Garage for several years. He married Dinah Scarr on July 27, 1938, in Las Vegas. During World War II, Mr. Houston worked as foreman of a welding crew that built ships at Mare Island, Calif. After the war, he returned to Petaluma and he and his brother, Ray, opened a garage, "Houston's Signal Repair," which they operated for 20 years. In the mid-1960s, he moved to Fall River Mills, Calif. and worked for a short period of time at a feed store before working as the lead custodian at Burney Elementary School in Burney for another 20 years. He also worked for Ted Swan at the liquor store in Burney. His wife preceded him in death in 1991 and he moved to Klamath Falls in 1993. Mr. Houston enjoyed bowling and won many trophies and also sponsored several bowling teams in Petaluma during the late 1950s. He enjoyed, too, watching baseball and football and going to the San Francisco Giants professional baseball games. He often went roller skating with the children at Burney Elementary School and helped them play baseball. For several years, he and his friends went on an annual two-week hunting trip near Alturas and various other places in Modoc County. He also liked to travel throughout the United States and Canada, planting a big garden, and growing flowers. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Petaluma. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Eleonia "Lee" and Ron Bowmer of Chiloquin; brother, Edward Vaughn of Minnesota; grandchildren, Cindy and George Robustelli of Chiloquin and John Robustelli of Waterford, Calif.; adopted grandchildren, Mona Clark and Corey Fancher of Chiloquin; step-grandchildren, Angel Robustelli of California, Phoebe Sisney of Waterford, Randy Bowmer of Portland, Susie Bowmer of Clackamas and Charlotte Thurlow of Newberry, Mass.; adopted great-grandchildren, Bryan, Sean and Tera Clark of Spokane, Wash.; step-great-grandchildren, Kimberly and Shawn Sisney of Waterford, Nicole, Jeremy, Brian and Danny Bowmer of Portland, and Nicholas and Travis Wilson of Newberry; special nephew, Jim Bertram; and numerous other nieces and nephews. He also leaves special friends, Lola, Howard, Carol, Gene, Jean, Lee, Carley, Bebe, Royal, Faye, Cub and Mike. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by siblings, Gene, Ray, Laura and Lura
