Phinney Sr., 71, a retired officer in the Internal Revenue Service at Boston, died Thursday in Phoenix VA Hospital. Mr. Phinney, of 1214 Wilson, moved here eight years ago from Boston. He was born in Lynn, Mass. An Army veteran of World War 1, he received the Purple Heart for wounds suffered in action and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Tempe. Services will be at 4 p.m. Monday in Carr Mortuary, 26 E. Fifth St. Friends may call there from noon to 9 p.m. tomorrow. Burial will be in Double Butte Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Anna; two sons, Douglas F. of Braintree, Mass., and Ralph Jr. of West Roxbury, Mass.; a daughter, Mrs. Esther Anderson of Canton, Mass.; a sister, Mrs. Ruth McAuliffe of Mesa; and 14 grandchildren.
