  • Obituary: BEALS, Carl Rilford - 86, Lawrencetown, died September 7, 2002, in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Clarence, he was a son of the late Orin and Elizabeth (Slocum) Beals. He operated C.R. Beals Meats & Groceries in Lawrencetown for over 40 years, peddling meats and groceries in various rural communities during that time and retired in 1980. He was past deacon of the United Baptist Church, Lawrencetown and a former member of the Lawrencetown Fire Department. He served on the Lawrencetown Village Commission and the Fairview Cemetery committee. He was a member of the IOOF, Valley Lodge 153. Upon retirement, his hobbies were chair caning, refinishing old furniture, and gardening. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, the former Rosamond Lowe; daughters, Nancy (Bob) Gesner, Lawrencetown; Madelyn (Sandy) McLain, Lawrencetown; Karen (Rod) Fraser, Porters Lake; son, William (Donna), Lawrencetown; sisters, Olive Hire, Waltham, Mass.; Ruth (Jim) Davis, Belfast, Me.; half-sisters, Reta Balcom, Middleton; Thelma (Joe) Zinker, South Windsor, Conn.; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by sister, Alice; brother, Raymond; half-brother, Glendon; stepmother, Elvie. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. today and IOOF Valley Lodge 153 will conduct their service at 7 p.m. today, both in Warren T. Roop Funeral Home, Middleton. Memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday in Lawrencetown United Baptist Church, Rev. Keith Wilbur officiating. Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Lawrencetown. Family flowers only. Donations to the Lawrencetown United Baptist Church, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, Fairview Cemetery or a charity of choice.
