Notes

  • Obituary: TOPSHAM - Barbara Mary Ann (Walker) Leason, 83, passed away peacefully on Nov. 18, 2015 with her family by her side. Barbara was born on May 2, 1932, in Fort Fairfield Maine to her now deceased parents Ruth Fowler Walker and William E. Walker. She had four brothers Robert, Alexander, Philip and Ralph, who have passed on. Barbara spent her early years in Presque Isle after which she graduated from Westbrook Jr. College in 1952. Joining her family, she moved to Salt Lake City and trained as an X-ray technician at St. Mark's Hospital. Returning to Presque Isle, Barbara worked at Gould Memorial Hospital. In August of 1955, she met Bob Leason, an Air Force Radar Officer. The couple were married on Dec. 31, 1955, and remained married for 59 years. In 1956, the couple moved to Amherst, Mass. Bob attended the University of Massachusetts while Barbara worked as an X-ray technician at the Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northhampton, Mass. Life's adventures continued with moves to Buffalo, N.Y., Detroit and Grand Rapids, Michigan; and Cleveland, Ohio then returned to Maine setting up their home in Farmingdale where they resided for 48 years before moving to Topsham. Barbara was a loving wife and mother raising children and briefly working as an X-ray technician in Augusta. Her four brothers had 22 children who keep life exciting, as many of them gather in Maine, especially in the summers at Popham Beach. She sparked joy in both her family and extended family, which now numbers upwards to 100 members. All who loved her will miss her warmth and affection. Barbara's hobbies included gardening, traveling, golfing and antiquing. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends while they vacationed at Popham Beach. Barbara is survived by her loving husband Robert; daughter Cynthia C.A. Crowe and her husband Dennis of Gorham, their children Derek and Kelsey; her son Steven W. Leason and his wife Heather (McNabb) of Selinsgrove, Pa. and their three children, Owen and twins Adeline and Sarah. She is also survived by her numerous nephews and nieces whom she loved dearly. Barbara's family would like to extend their appreciation to the physicians and nursing staff at Mid Coast Hospital for their exceptional care and support. Private interment will be held in Maine Veteran's Memorial cemetery in Augusta at a later date.
