  • Obituary: Funeral service for Jeannette Iola "Jeanne" Elgin will be 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 23, at the First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Paul Merrill officiating. Burial will follow at Chelsea Cemetery under the direction of the Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Funeral Service & Crematory. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Fri. 1-8 p.m., and family will greet friends 4-6 p.m. The daughter of Emil William and Jessie Mabel (Ratcliff) Eggenberger, Jeanne was born April 11, 1915, in Ardley, Alberta, Canada. On August 14, 1940, Jeanne married Francis "Lee" Elgin in Brooks, Alberta, Canada. They made their home in Chelsea for 58 years. Jeanne received her bachelor's degree from Northeastern State University, Tahlequah. She was a retired elementary teacher and a member of the Delphian club and First Presbyterian Church. Jeanne enjoyed gardening, playing bridge, traveling, water aerobics, reading, crossword puzzles, and playing golf. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brothers: Garth, Elgin, and Donald Eggenberger. She is survived by her sons: Doug Elgin and wife, Ann of Huntsville, AL, and Dr. Don Elgin and wife, Jennie of Muskogee; daughter, Trish Lindsey and husband, Jim of Owasso; sister, Zenith Hrdlicka of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; brother, Doug Eggenberger of Amherstview, Ontario, Canada; granddaughters: Jennifer Simpson and husband, Brian of High Point, NC, and Leigh Ann Elgin of St. Petersburg, FL; grandsons: Eric Elgin and wife, Julie of Broken Arrow, Brian Elgin and wife, Heather of Pensacola, FL, and David Elgin and wife, Jessica of Atlanta, GA; and great-grandchildren: Maisie Jeanne Elgin and Van Alan Elgin. Memorial contributions may be made to the Chelsea Education Foundation and First Presbyterian Church.
