Born in Rochester, Essex County, Ont. in 1882, Mr. Smith has farmed in the district for the past 51 years. He was a staunch supporter of the United Church and a member of the session. For a time he served as chairman of the local organization of the United Grain Growers, served on the school board, and was interested in community affairs generally. Early this year Mr. Smith was an honored guest of the Delburne Masonic Lodge, when he received a fifty-year jewel. He was Master of the Delburne Lodge in 1928 and more recently served as an officer of the Grand Lodge of Alberta. Surviving are his wife, Mary, two sons, Sidney and John, and one daughter Mrs. Geo. Andrews (Isabel), all of Delburne. There are four grandchildren; two brother, James of Detroit, Mich., La Rue of Edmonton, and one sister, Grace of Windsor, Ont. The graveside service was conducted by members of the Masonic fraternity with Mr. Y.J. Greenwood of Lousana as chaplain. The lodge members also attended the church service in a body. Pallbearers were members of Delburne Lodge: A.G. Warren, J.F. English, Wm. Ure, John MacDonald, Jack Jamieson, A.T. George.
