  • Obituary: KENNETH L. GILSON November 4, 1964 Kenmar Road, Fortuna Husband of Mrs. Martha P. Gilson of Fortuna. Father of the late Lucy Gilson who died ten years ago. Brother-in-law of Mrs. Lucy Rogers of Fortuna. Uncle of George Rogers of Mayville, N.Y. Gilson was a graduate of Pennsylvania State University and was employed 15 years in mining in the Arctic. He was a veteran of World War I, serving with the U.S. Army as captain of the quartermaster corps. In 1924 he came to California and during the Depression developed a chicken ranch on his Fortuna property. For 12 years he was a trustee of Fortuna Union High School and was a member of St. Francis Episcopal Church, Fortuna, and choir member of the Poultry Producers of Northern California, past member of the Scotia band, charter member of Redwood Empire Golf and Country Club where he was unanimously given an honorary life membership upon his resignation because of health. Also a member of Humboldt County Fair Board for a number of years. A native of Coleville, Penn. Age 84. Funeral services will be held at St. Francis Episcopal Church Saturday, Nov. 7, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. W. Barton Kendrick officiating. Holy communion in memory of Kenneth Gilson will be offered Friday, Nov. 6 at 10 a.m. at St. Francis Episcopal Church, Fortuna. Private inurnment at Ocean View Crematory, Eureka.
