  • Obituary: It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Paul Edward Carmichael, age 89 of Woodstock, New Brunswick. Paul passed away at the Carleton Manor Nursing Home on Monday, April 17, 2017. Born on July 25, 1927 in Good Corner, N.B., he was the seventh in the family of Ellis and May (Holmes) Carmichael. Paul worked initially on the family farm. He then spent many years in the business of distributing gasoline and fuel oil products to the people of Carleton County. He worked for Irving Oil from 1960 to 1969, after which he started his own business as an oil distributor with Texaco Canada. In 1988, he began working for Fundy Energy of Saint John, out of their location on the Trans-Canada Highway in Jacksonville, NB. For several years, Paul served on the Board of CIEVA (Workshop, Community Industries) and was a director of the Woodstock Riding Liberal Association. He also served as an Elder in the United Church of Canada (Williamstown and Centreville) for a number of years. He was an avid enthusiast of vintage tractors and farm machinery, and enjoyed woodworking activities. He was particularly fond of spending winter months in Florida with his wife, the late Jean (McAuley) Carmichael. Paul was predeceased by his wife, Jean (McAuley) Carmichael; by a son, Allen Carmichael; by his three brothers, George, Floyd and Milford Carmichael; and by three sisters, Thelma Antworth, Anna Sprague and Audrey Black. He is survived by a son, Raymond (Valerie) Carmichael, of Williamstown, NB; a daughter, Sandra (Bernard) Bourque, of Campobello Island, NB; five grandchildren, Kevin (Sandrine Rastello) Carmichael, Kathy (John Keenan) Carmichael, Andrew (Meredith) McCartney, Chris (Melissa) McCartney and Laura McCartney; six great-grandchildren, Abby and Anna Carmichael-Keenan, Daniel and Rowan McCartney, Jackson and Rylee Sue McCartney; two sisters, Violet Farnham and Ardith Wolsey; as well as a number of nieces and nephews. Arrangements have been entrusted to The Carleton Funeral Home & Crematorium 337 Lockhart Mill Road, Jacksonville, NB, from where a time of visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home chapel on Thursday at 11:00 a.m., Reverend Mary Taylor officiating. Interment will take place at the Williamstown Cemetery following the service.
