  • Obituary: GARDINER - Helen Fowler Stevens, 91, passed away Feb. 25, 2010, at Bay Square at Yarmouth Senior Living Community. Helen was born in Fort Fairfield on Aug. 25, 1918, the twin daughter of Leslie and Myra Fowler. She attended Aroostook State Teacher's College in Presque Isle where she met Halbert Stevens, the love of her life. Helen and Hal were married for 66 years, and lived in Caribou and Gardiner, where they raised their three children, Halbert, Naomi and Douglas. After Hal's retirement, they moved to Ocala, Fla., but continued to summer in Maine at their cottage on Taylor Pond in Auburn. Helen was very active in all Gardiner Methodist Church activities. Helen is predeceased by her husband, Halbert, her brothers, George and Robert, and her sisters, Doris and Anna. She is survived by her twin brother, Howard Fowler of Daytona Beach, Fla.; her children, Halbert Fowler Stevens of Miramar Beach, Fla., Naomi Helen Stevens and her husband, Jay Nettesheim, of Gorham, and Douglas James Stevens and his wife, Jeri Weisberger Stevens, of Sidney; seven grandchildren, Melissa and Patrick Cusk and their three children J.P., Joseph, and Morgan of Pensacola, Fla., Phoebe Stevens of California, Elizabeth Stevens of New York, N.Y., Jennifer Allaire of Portland, Jason and Amy Allaire and their four children Griffin, Charlotte, Cosette and Thaddeus of York, Jacob Stevens of Bethel, and Sara Stevens of Boston. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 1, 2010, in the chapel at the new Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta. (Morning Sentinel 2/28/2010)
