Gerald Jones was born February 28, 1938 to Joshua Jeremiah Jones and Dovie Jones in Henderson, Texas where he met his future wife, Jessie Rogers Jones in Beckville, Texas. They married on November 2, 1959. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, honorably discharged from Army Corp of Engineers in 1959. Mr. Jones is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jessie Rogers Jones; and his sister, Gay Woods. Also left behind to cherish his memories are his children, daughter Joyce Gillum and husband, Brian; daughter Teresa Wells and husband, Sam Wells; and son Carlton Jones and wife, Tina Jones. Gerald also leaves behind nine grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren. In addition, Gerald will be missed by many loving extended family members and friends. He was a true believer of Christ and was a member of Airway Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years. He worked most of his life proudly developing his talents as a machinist, eventually opening his own successful machine shop, G L Jones Machine Works, where, up until three years ago, he continued to teach his many skills to his son, Carlton and his youngest grandson, Cameron to carry on the family legacy. Gerald was an incredible man full of love and devotion for his family. He enjoyed huge family gatherings for the holidays. Gerald Lee Jones "PAPAW" will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed. Visitation will be from six o'clock to seven o'clock in the evening Wednesday, September 19, 2018, at Niday Funeral Home '96 Beamer Chapel. The funeral service will follow at seven o'clock. He will be laid to rest on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at two o'clock in the afternoon at the Welch Family Cemetery near Henderson, Texas. Brother Ed of Airway Baptist Church will officiate the service. Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Cameron Jones, Jason Gillum, Joshua Gillum, Jesse Gillum, and Travis Wells.
