Notes

  • Obituary: Lennah Jo Baethge was born June 27, 1939, at the Keidel Memorial Hospital in Fredericksburg, Texas. She was the daughter of August Baethge and Beulah Mae Owen Baethge. She only had one brother, James Vance. The Baethge's lived on Edwards Creek in western Gillespie County near the little town of Doss. Here she spent her early childhood in a loving home nestled in the beautiful hill country. There were lots of visitors at the ranch, and she enjoyed the company and the activities, especially during hunting season and during church meeting held at the local Primitive Baptist Church where her family attended their entire lives. Lennah's first formal education was in a little two room school at Doss. Here she passed her first eight years, and then finished and graduated from Fredericksburg High School. She attended San Marcos Teachers College where she received her degree in elementary education and eventually certified special education. She taught school for over 30 years. Early experience was in Devine TX and finished her career at Leon Valley in San Antonio. On July 18, 1964, Lennah married Stephen Winston Hooper. They lived in San Antonio and he worked in civil service military supply at Kelly AFB, while she continued to teach. On July 2, 1969, they had their first and only son, Byron Keith Hooper. As Byron grew to manhood, they became involved in football and track events all over the country, for he was an exceptionally talented athlete. They enjoyed the interaction with the other parents and sports fans. Lennah herself liked to bowl, and she bowled with a group of friends for many years in San Antonio. She also enjoyed the activities of two nephews, Michael Vance and Bradley Owen. Her life was busy and full. Also adding wonderful dimensions to her life were two grandsons Benjamin Winston and Ryan August. Lennah loved the boys with all her heart and enjoyed attending their sporting events and family time. Lennah had a firm belief in God and her church was an integral part of her life. She traveled back to and forth to Squaw Creek Primitive Baptist Church at Doss where she was a member most of her life. She was a faithful member and never failed to do what she could do Lennah loved her family and was very interested in history and happenings. Thus, it became an ongoing project to chart and record the genealogy of the Baethge family. She shared her findings with those who were interested and helped them in their efforts. She not only studied about the history of her family, but she enjoyed everything current with her kin. She made special efforts to go and visit the elderly who no longer could get around or who were in a nursing home. She gave of herself freely for others. As Lennah grew older, the frailties of the flesh made it harder for her to do the many things she enjoyed. Traveling was harder, and she had to have help even with every day chores and activities. Steve took care of her for many years as long as his health allowed him to. Lennah loved her family, friends and church. Her memories we will cherish forever. And we are comforted knowing she is now tightly in the arms of God. Fredericksburg Funeral Home Fredericksburg,TX
