  • Obituary: Graveside services will be held on Monday, December 9, 2002, 1:30 p.m., at Westside District Cemetery, Taft, CA, for George G. Kennedy, 86, who passed away Wednesday, December 5, 2002, in Bakersfield. Chuck Simonson, Chaplain for Hoffmann Hospice, will officiate. George G. Kennedy was born on April 26, 1916, in Calgary, Alberta,Canada, and moved to Taft at the age of three months. He attended all local schools in Taft, including Taft College. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and retired from Southern California Gas Co. after 40 years. His passions were golf, reading, sports events, travel (as long as it included golf), the History Channel, music from the 30s and 40s and his lifelong friends. He was married for over 50 years to Marge Schultz Kennedy, who passed away in 2000. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Carolyn Wheeler, his parents, sister, Alice Tillery and brother, Ed Kennedy. He is survived by his son, Gordon (Cindy) Kennedy of Bakersfield; grandsons, Zak and Tyler Kennedy of Bakersfield, Brian (Carolyn) Wheeler of Turlock, CA, Phillip Wheeler of Morro Bay, CA; great-grandchildren, Briana and Ross Wheeler of Turlock, CA; son-in-law, Guy Wheeler of Morro Bay, CA; nephews, Bob Tillery of Clayton, CA, Bill and Bob Fraker of Sanger, CA and other relatives in CA and Canada. After Marge passed away, George moved to Glenwood Gardens, The Home, as George referred to it, and eventually to Glenwood Gardens Skilled Nursing. Heartfelt thanks to two incredible nurses at GGSN, Tracey Francis CNA and Leaha Elliott RN, who did so much more for George than care for his medical needs. They showered him with love, compassion, affection and made him feel so special. He affectionately referred to them both as Blondie. We cannot express how much you both have touched our family and how thankful we are to both of you and the staff at GGSN. Also thanks to Hoffmann Hospice for their excellent care of George in his final weeks. And finally, special thanks to Georges wonderful circle of lifelong friends, for their love and support, kindness, visits, calls and friendship. Visitation will be held at Erickson and Brown Funeral Home on Sunday, December 8, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m., and Monday, December 9, from 9:00 a.m. until noon. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the organization of your choice. Bakersfield Californian Bakersfield,CA December 8,2002
