  • Obituary: Former Bremerton resident Walter Jack, 79, of Puyallup died Thursday at Linden Grove Health Care Center in Puyallup. He was born in Bremerton to Eugene and Hazel (Mckechnie) Jack. He was an Eagle Scout and an All-American football player in high school. During World War II, Mr. Jack served in the Army with the 11th Airborne Division in the Pacific Theater. He was awarded several Bronze Stars for Heroism. He went on to become a chemical engineer. He held a patent for a pulp bleaching process. He was a member of Theta Chi fraternity at the University of Washington. Survivors include two daughters, Janet Jack of Milton, Wash., and Kathy Jack of Tacoma; two sons, David Jack of Federal Way and Stephen Jack of Tacoma; six grandchildren; three sisters, Bernice Thompson of Hansville, Grace Barlow of Silverdale and Ruth Anderson of Vista, Calif. A funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Haven of Rest Funeral Home beside Highway 16 in Gig Harbor. Interment will be at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent.
