Notes

  • Obituary: Kathleen "Kay" Annabell (Matheson) Langille 94 years, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, May 12, 2011 at the St. Vincent's Nursing Home, Halifax. Kathleen was born in Maccan, NS, on September 24, 1916 to the late Jerusha Matheson. Raised by her loving grandparents, James and Christina Matheson, she owed much of her music and culinary talent to her experiences growing up with them. She married her late husband, Allison "Chub" Langille, on August 26, 1948 in Springhill, NS, where they made their home for much of their lives together. In true pioneer style, Kathleen did without many of the modern conveniences, cooking wonderful dishes from scratch on her wood stove. It was always a treat to enjoy a slice of her molasses cake or Washington pie. She could often be seen chopping wood and washing clothes by hand. This down home lifestyle shaped her character and sense of humour. Those who knew her well were often treated to colourful no nonsense conversation. Musically, she enjoyed playing her accordion, and she loved to listen to that old time country music. She is survived by her daughter, Joanne (Alan) Chilton, Halifax; grandchildren, Kathleen Shubert, Scott Spicer and Rosanna Chilton; great grandchildren, Thea Shubert, Jonathan Blynn, Emilee Nicholson, Jade and Jorja Haase, and Keegan and Kyle Spicer. She was predeceased by her husband, Allison; sister, Sarah "Sadie" Matheson; granddaughter, Randie Shubert.
