She was born in Westville and was the daughter of the late Ivan Rodderick and Jessie Mable (MacKenzie) MacDonald. Shirley grew up in Priestville and remained there her entire life. Shirley was an accomplished seamstress and dressmaker, having been employed by Goodman Co. for many years until its closing and for Reid International. She loved a challenge when it came to sewing, making many gowns for Bridal parties and prom dresses and any alteration possible. Shirley also loved to sew for her home and make quilts. She was also an avid reader. Her home was where she was happiest as this was the center of all family gatherings. She was an advisor and sounding board for all and was known to everyone for her kind heart. Shirley also loved her time spent at the cottage in Larry's River with Malcolm, her family and friends, where card games usually lasted until 3 A.M. She was member of the Salvation Army Home League for over 40 years. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Malcolm Wilson Pellerine Sr.; son, Malcolm Jr. (Ann Corbett), Priestville; daughter, ***Cindy (Sherman) Knight***, MacLellan's Brook; grandchildren, Brandon Pellerine, Lacey Pellerine and Taliah Knight; great-granddaughter, Riel; brothers, Clarence (Betty) MacDonald, Mount William; Raymond (Debbie) MacDonald, Reeves Road; Roger MacDonald, Little Harbour; sister and best friend, Wendy (Frank) MacCulloch, Little Harbour; sister-in-law, Diane Johnson, Pictou. She was predeceased by brother, Rodderick MacDonald; sister, Linda in infancy; granddaughter, Laurel Lea Knight. The family will receive visitors from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Thursday, December 10th in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, December 11th in the chapel with Rev. Maureen O'Haggan officiating. Interment will be in Castle Hill Cemetery, MacLellan's Brook. Donations in Shirley's memory may be made to The Salvation Army or to the New Glasgow Branch of the Pictou-Antigonish Regional Library.
